Nathanael G. Herreshoff was the greatest marine designer and builder this country has ever produced. He is credited with the introduction of more new devices in boat design than any other man, and the great yachts that he created for the successful defense of the America's Cup caught the imagination of the entire world. The period of his greatest activity, from 1890 to 1920, is known as "the Herreshoff Era," and his life and career make for a fascinating biography.

“One of that great circle of American inventive geniuses, which includes Morse and Edison, was Captain Nathaniel Greene Herreshoff, famed yacht designer. “…one of the most absorbing yachting histories anyone could desire.” —Lloyd's List

“…a chatty, homey, well-illustrated biography, making pleasant and informative reading from cover to cover.” —Boston Globe

“This is a book that every yachtsman with a real interest in his sport will enjoy tremendously.” —Yachting

“…gives marvellous insight into the character and influences of one of the world's greatest yacht designers.” —Classic Boat

“…a story both surprising and complex…the pages teem with human interest, philosophy, and accumulated wisdom as secrets of a great master are revealed.” —The ENSIGN

“…a fascinating biography of a fantastic genius.” —The American Neptune
