Endangered SpeciesBy Richard Woodman336 pp. April 2000. Paperback. $14.95 ISBN 1 57409 076 3
During the waning days of the British merchant fleet, Captain John Mackinnon and his ship, each a last vestige of a dying breed, prepare to embark on their final voyage. Bound for Hong Kong, their journey will prove to be anything but quiet. When Mackinnon rescues a boatload of Vietnamese refugees fleeing to Hong Kong, he sets off an explosive chain of events that ultimately lead to mutiny, confrontation with Chinese authorities, and the greatest challenge of his career. Meanwhile, the tension among his crew provokes dissent and causes a navigation error that steers them right into the terrifyingly destructive path of Typhoon David. “A dynamic, brilliantly written maritime action/adventure novel.” Midwest Book Review “Brilliantly told, the story catches every nuance… A convincing and compulsive seafaring story.” Oxford Times
