About the Author:
Captain Nick Bates was born and brought up in Northern Ireland. He obtained his ‘Master’s ticket’ in 1975 and shortly afterwards was offered a position on board the luxury cruise liner Queen Elizabeth 2. Since that fateful day, he has remained with the Passenger Division of Cunard Line, and latterly with P&O Princess Cruises.
