Aboard his 32-foot sloop DREAM WEAVER, Schaefer set out to chase the ghost of Hemingway across 2,000 miles of saltwater. His quest took him to the Florida Keys, then west above the Gulf Stream and south to marvel at the Havana skyline as it rose out of a morning mist.
Schaefer visited many of Hemingway's known haunts, including the famous writer's perfectly preserved home near Havana. Along the way, he learned a great deal about the Cuban people, who welcome American sailors (and dollars), wink at the local laws, and possess an irrepressible vitality and spirit.
