Sheridan House proudly presents a unique opportunity to purchase a copy of The Lawson History of the America's Cup, generally considered the official and most detailed history of the race's first 50 years.

Controversy has always surrounded this famous yachting challenge; from its very inception, results, designs, and tactics have been the subject of heated debate. The Lawson History offers an exciting, well-written, and highly personal account of these debates, the races themselves, and the challengers and winners up to 1901. Thomas W. Lawson never hesitates to share his frequently quite radical opinions.

Originally published in 1902 as a limited and numbered edition of only 3000 copies, the original work is almost impossible to find, and even used copies typically cost $1,500 or more.

In 1986, an exquisite limited and numbered reprint was published by Sheridan House in the U.S. and Ashford Press in the U.K. Priced at $150, the book quickly sold out. However, 100 previously overlooked brand-new copies have been discovered, and this rare treasure is once again available for purchase.

This is a large-format facsimile edition, ornately brassed on high quality buckram in the Victorian tradition. The cover features gold and white linen, and the pages are gilded with gold edging. There are 90 illustrations — including 17 full watercolors depicting famous America's Cup challengers in full sail, each of which would make for an exceptional print — as well as a fascinating assortment of sketches, yacht plans, and race charts.
